About

It's onboard Estrella Damm that Alex Pella and Pepe Ribes finished 4th in the last 2010-2011 Barcelona World Race.

History

Launched in February 2007, this Farr designed boat is none other than Paprec-Virbac 2 that Jean-Pierre Dick and Damian Foxall sailed to victory in the 2007-2008 Barcelona World Race. It was also on this Farr designed boat that Jean-Pierre Dick was forced to retire from the last Vendée Globe. Afterwards, the boat was redecorated in the colours of W Hotels, finishing fifth in the 2009 Transat Jacques Vabre, with Alex Pella and Pepe Ribes on board. Estrella Damm also broke the record between New York and Barcelona and finished third in the first edition of the Round Spain sailing race in 2010.

About the Skipper

Originally from Barcelona, Alex Pella is one of a family with four brothers, who are all professional sailors. In 1999, his experience preparing two Spanish boats taking part in the Solitaire du Figaro confirmed his passion for solo sailing. In particular, he has taken part three times in the Transat 6,50. Third in 2003, he came second in 2005 after a brilliant Atlantic crossing between Lanzarote and Salvador da Bahía. In 2007, when he last took part, he was forced to retire after his boat was dismasted.
