About

This very wide boat is the most powerful in the IMOCA fleet. She's an extreme design which goes against today’s trend for light boats.

History

Launched for the first time in June 2007, this Kouyoumdjian designed boat is the former Pindar aboard which Brian Thompson won the 2008 Artemis Challenge before finishing fifth in the last Vendée Globe.

Bought by Alex Thomson and relaunched in May 2010, the new Hugo Boss has undergone some important modifications under the direction of the designer Juan Kouyoumdjian. The goal has been to make the boat easier to handle and to optimise her performance.

About the Skipper

Alex Thomson first made a name for himself when he won the 1999 Clipper Round the World Race, becoming the young skipper to win a round the world race. At the time, he was just 25. In the following year he won the Round Britain and Ireland Race aboard an Open 50. This opened the doors to 60-foot monohull racing. He achieved his first major success in the IMOCA circuit by smashing the single-handed 24-hour distance record for a monohull covering 468 miles during the 2003 Atlantic Challenge.
