Boat #SUI 09

Mirabaud

Boat nameMirabaud

About

Designed by Owen Clarke Design, this boat was launched in September 2006. Mirabaud is in fact none other than the former Temenos II aboard which Dominique Wavre sailed  49,000 miles racing between 2006 and 2009. So he knows this boat perfectly.  After several months of work on her, Dominique Wavre’s boat was relaunched in her new colours in July 2010.  So it will be aboard a boat that has been completely refitted and fine tuned that Dominique Wavre will be tackling his next few races.

History

It was aboard her that the Swis skipper finished third in the Barcelona World Race 2007-2008, alongside Michèle Paret. Among her other remarkable results: coming fourth in the 2006 Route du Rhum, the 2007 Fastnet Race and the 2007 Round Britain Race. In the 2008-2009 Vendée Globe, the Swiss skipper was however forced to retire off the Kerguelens. And he was also forced to retire from the Barcelona World Race 2010-2011 following Mirabaud's dismasting.

About the Skipper

Born in Geneva, with an engineer father and a tennis champion mother, quite logically, Dominique Wavre began his sporting career on the courts. But then, during his teenage years, he discovered sailing on Lake Geneva. This passion would remain with the sailor throughout his studies, and he would soon give up his job as a drawing teacher. The call of the ocean was simply too great and he went aboard Disque d'Or 3 alongside Pierre Felhman, for his first round the world voyage in the 1981 Whitbread 1981. This was the start of a long and brilliant career.
