Skipper NameJean-Pierre Dick (181pts)
About the Skipper
His keen competitive sens, unfaltering enthusiasm and his passion for the most advanced prototypes make Jean-Pierre Dick one of the leading solo sailors. With his team spirit, modesty and his respect for the sea, Jean-Pierre is truly the gentleman-skipper, as Loïck Peyron called him.
A qualified vet, an experienced racer, he has been taking part in ocean races since 2002. After chartering Michel Desjoyeaux’s former PRB, Jean-Pierre Dick became the first skipper to call upon the services of the Farr team to design an IMOCA monohull. It was on board this boat that he won the 2003 Transat Jacques Vabre. He set off on the 2004-2005 Vendée Globe, his maiden non-stop solo round the world voyage. He finished in sixth place in spite of a long list of technical problems. Since then, Jean-Pierre Dick has covered a huge number of miles and built up a considerable experience of solo ocean racing. Winner of the 2005 Transat Jacques Vabre and third in the 2006 Route du Rhum, he was however forced to retire during his second attempt at the Vendée Globe.
A meticulous, hard worker and obvious perfectionist, he has constantly shone as one of the leading lights in the IMOCA circuit. His victories in the first two editions of the Barcelona World Race are proofs of that. He will be one of the favourites in the Transat Jacques Vabre and the Transat B to B this year, and obviously one of the front-runners in the forthcoming Vendée Globe.
