About the Skipper

Ryan Breymaier began to sail when he was a student at the University of Maryland (USA). He found this to be very much to his liking and soon turned professional.  He has sailed on all sorts of boats and taken part in many races in the States.

In 2007, he joined the Kairos team, the race team run by Roland Jourdain. He discovered the IMOCA circuit and was involved in the fine tuning of Veolia Environnement for the first Barcelona World Race and for the 2008-2009 Vendée Globe. In 2009, he was part of the crew of the 60’ IMOCA during the SNSM Record and the Istanbul Europa Race.

In June 2010, the SNSM record was his first event as IMOCA skipper and he would finish fifth. Ryan Breymaier is sailing aboard Roland Jourdain’s former Veolia Environnement. This is a boat that he knows like the back of his hand and it will be on her that he will line up for the start of the second Barcelona World Race alongside the German Boris Herrmann. Ryan Breymaier has declared some clear ambitions for the future, as he would like to take part in the Vendée Globe.

About the Boat

Launched in April 2004, this Lombard-designed boat is in fact Roland Jourdain’s old boat (called Sill, then Veolia Environnement) aboard which the skipper from Quimper was up with the frontrunners in the 2008-2009 Vendée Globe, before he was forced to retire after a collision with a marine mammal. He was also forced to retire in the 2004-2005 non-stop solo race around the world and in the 2007 Barcelona World Race (alongside Jean-Luc Nélias).
