Established by the sailors of the successful campaign of Team SCA in the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-2015, The Magenta Project is a collective of passionate people committed to developing pathways and generating opportunities for more equity and inclusion in sailing, leading with gender.

We work with a wide range of individuals and organisations to make a positive and progressive impact on our sport, from grassroots initiatives to partnerships with international events and leagues.

Their core activities include:

  • A flagship mentoring programme, which matches up-and-coming talent with legends of our sport to support their career development in sailing through a 9-month one-to-one mentoring programme and an online group programme

  • Creating opportunities to enhance the place of women in competitive sailing through training

  • The development of networks and relationships that link individuals and organisations, sharing knowledge, experience and opportunities in sailing

  • Raising awareness of women in sailing and highlighting success stories

  • Illustrating the need for change in sailing, providing solutions and sharing evidence of what works

  • Supporting race organisers on gender policy

IMOCA and The Magenta Project have been partners since 2022

The aim of this collaboration is to promote the profiles of young competent women who are keen to join ocean racing projects, but also to help these women sailors to gain experience and to be trained both in the technical aspects and in sailing in IMOCA.
