Sailing double-handed on a racing yacht is no small matter, especially when the course stretches some 5,400 theoretical miles (or 10,000km).
Maciej Marczewski: "Zbigniew Gutkowski (alias Gutek) and I have known each other since we were kids. We first began competing against one other in the Optimist, then the 420 and the 470 before starting to collaborate on big projects. I became the boat captain during his two single-handed round the worlds for the Velux 5 Oceans then more recently the Vendée Globe. As such I know the boat inside out and I’ll bring my technical expertise to the project, while Gutek will be in charge of the strategy and the weather analysis. This race is a long sprint and it’ll take at least the two of us to get the boat making headway to the best of her potential. The first part of the course promises to be particularly intense with a tough weather forecast and a great deal of shipping. It’ll take at least the two of us to take it in turns on the deck, so as to avoid any risk of collision."
