There are several possible scenarios: if the atmospheric disturbance passes to the north of the fleet the sailors will have to sail close-hauled in 35-knot south-westerly winds gusting to 50, in what are already very heavy seas! If the depression passes to the south of them, conditions are likely to be a lot more manageable. Similarly, it’s not out of the question for the head of the fleet to pass to the south of the depression and the back runners to the north...
