Embrace the Challenge endommage sa grand-voile

The Embrace the Challenge team issued the following statement overnight after suffering damage to their mainsail during a reefing a manouevre.
At 21:45 UTC during a reefing manoeuvre in very strong winds, Team ETC suffered significant damage to the mainsail.
Current conditions make it impossible to attempt a repair. The team are continuing to make their way to Lorient at reduced speed with a limited sail plan, until an assessment can be made at first light.
All crew members are safe and well, but bitterly disappointed and hope to make a swift repair to continue racing.

•••Thomas Ruyant: “I will not be at the start of the next Route du Rhum”
My disappointment is immense. This race holds a special place in my history. I have competed in it and won it twice. As the defending champion, I was obviously very keen to come back and defend that victory.
