Giancarlo Pedote (Prysmian Group) crossed the finish line of the twelfth edition of the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe at 05:47:50 UTC on Wednesday 23rd November. He finished sixteenth in the IMOCA class with a race time of 13 days, 16 hours, 32 minutes and 50 seconds.

The Italian skipper sailed the 3542 theoretical miles of the race course between Saint-Malo and Pointe-à-Pitre at the speed of 10.78 knots on the Great Circle route. Out on the water, the skipper of Prysmian Group actually sailed 4255.02 miles averaging 12.95 knots. He finished in Pointe-à-Pitre 1 day 22 hours 56 minutes and 25 seconds after the class winner, Thomas Ruyant (LinkedOut).

"The conditions at the start were pretty much normal, except that on the second night, I blew my J2 in half. It broke cleanly, I didn't expect it because there were 20 knots of wind. I cried with pain as I brought the sail back. I continued under J3 but I was penalized because we did a lot of upwind sailing. I hesitated to go back west, I played the south, but it was not a good option. I went up the mast in the ridge and then on the second part of the race downwind, I had a good speed. Even with a lot of delay, I came back well on the group. I found some interesting sail configurations, even if there is still some work to do. I would have liked to do better, sailing is a mechanical sport, that's how it is. The tour of Guadeloupe was complicated with a lot of maneuvers, like the Glénans book.

Sailing for me is a competition, it's not necessarily a pleasure. I try to do better all the time, these are not necessarily boats to take pleasure in. I have mixed feelings about my race, but I am happy to have arrived in Guadeloupe."
