Profile

Pierre Leroy has a remarkable advantage over the other IMOCA skippers: he is a meteorologist and a navigator.

After a few years of IRC sailing participating in the major races of the circuit, it was in 2016 that Pierre decided to dive into the adventure of the Mini Transat. He then raced for three seasons on his Pogo 3 sponsored by Arthur Loyd and finished fifth in the 2019 solo transatlantic race. But the competition gave him the desire to continue, until the 2021 edition, which he won brilliantly thanks to a southern option on the second leg.

At the same time, Pierre continues his work as a meteorologist at Météo-France where he makes weather forecasts for skippers, but also for the organisers of major sporting events that are affected by the weather, such as tennis tournaments or motor sports. He began working with teams, such as Charlie Dalin in the Figaro in 2015, and in the IMOCA in 2022, as well as Benjamin Ferré, whom he coached in his apprenticeship in weather.

In 2023, Pierre joined the Benjamin Envoie le Pépin team, with the double hat of Boat Captain and co-skipper, until the Vendée Globe.
