By taking the helm of Safran, Marc Guillemot has returned to offshore racing with a bang. Marc, a discreet and self-willed man, is known by his peers for his pugnacity, his courage and his seamanship. Marc grew up amongst skippers and sailors and he is one of the few yachtsmen to have mastered an innate seamanship which allows him to be one with his boat when at sea. Marc Guillemot is not only a sailor but also a sea lover: the skipper from La Trinité engages in as many oceanrelated activities as he can, exploring shipyards, regularly training on his Open 7.50 boat or sailing his Guépard ship with his family.

Marc Guillemot belongs to a generation of skippers that has greatly contributed to the evolution of offshore racing. Starting as a regatta team-mate before moving on to bigger round-the-world races, Marc became a multihull skipper in 1998, with a 4th place in his very first Route du Rhum.

2006 was a key year in his career as the Safran Group chose him to design an innovative and powerful 60-foot race yacht for the 2008-2009 Vendée Globe. Building a team around yacht designers Vincent Lauriot Prévost and Guillaume Verdier as well as Safran engineers, he has changed the IMOCA class with a boat that is light, powerful and efficient whatever the speed. Successes came very soon and others competitors quickly followed, getting inspiration for their own news plans. To bring this project to fruition, Marc has gathered a strong and efficient team around him, tightly knit together by a strong team spirit – a value that is very close to his heart – and constantly seeking innovation and performance.
