Emblematic figure of the famous « Vallée des Fous » located in the south of  Finistère (west of Brittany), Jean Le Cam is the typical eclectical and passionate sailor. By varying the differents boats type he sailed on, he has succeeded in building up impressive results. But do not imagine that it could have changed the way he is! He is above all a cheerful person, whose talent as a competitor is only equalled by his spontaneous kindness. Indeed, who could have forgotten Le Cam’s famous talks during the past Vendée Globe radio sessions? He had then shown to a large audience his fondness for unconventional expressions, his capacity to take a certain distance with things whatever the situation is and his sense of humour. More than a mere dangerous competitor, his competitors see him as a great seaman … and a genuine “character” always willing to share his passion for the sea.

And this passion goes back to his tender age, as he started sailing soon after having made his first steps, between the « Baie de la Forêt » and the « Glénans ». If this playground has not entirely built up his fate, at least it has revealed his taste for sailing. From the dinghy to the more traditional boats, Jean has a taste of the regatta and gets rapidly drawn into it. When he was a teenager, he was taking part to each family cruises, associated with Hubert Desjoyeaux on his father’s boat, with whom he founded the shipyard CDK in the middle 80s. Along with Eric Tabarly, on Pen Duick VI, Le Cam really comes out in the world of the ocean race, not without having first started his career as a « soloist » by competing in the Aurore that will then become the famous Solitaire du Figaro. He has won it three times, thus equalling Philippe Poupon’s record!

Also interested in breaking speed limits, Le Cam increases experiences with multihulls by becoming notably one of the pioneers of Formule 40, after having beaten the record of the Atlantique with Jet Services’ catamaran accompanied by his friends Serge Madec, Patrick Morvan and Marc Guillemot… Now a new season starts, with the Vendée Globe 2008/2009 as a target. This year, Jean has once again well plotted his business. Technic, naval architecture… Jean is fond of it. His VM Matériaux version 2008 is the natural result of lifetime’s passion and an exceptional know-how.
