Nothing marked out Kito de Pavant to become a professional racer since his passion as a youth was instead geared towards the countryside and horse-riding… But when you have a father who builds small cruising yachts like the Cap Corse, the Dordogne river smacks of horizons faraway!Initially it was dinghy sailing that initiated him to the particularities of sailing and he gained success near La Rochelle, prior to moving on to competitive sailing in small habitable craft (Micro, Mini Tonner, Quarter…).

When his parents moved to Grau du Roi, Christophe was able to spend an increasing amount of time on the water to the point where he worked as the boss of a charter yacht in the Mediterranean and then the West Indies... Ten years later, the competitive bug took hold of him again whilst he was developing his marine activities. The year 2000 was the turning point in his career since it was then that he got into the Figaro circuit, which is one of the most highly demanding for a solo sailor: two editions later, he had shown great flair and was able to open up to other disciplines like the ORMA trimaran with Jean Le Cam, followed by the IMOCA monohull.

During this time he was a member of the Port La Forêt Sail Training Centre, as well as the Port Camargue Training Centre, the latter set up in order to train and bring out young Mediterranean talent. 2005 was another high point, when Groupe Bel decided to back him in the Figaro circuit. This engaging character with the air of a buccaneer, then convinced the cheese manufacturer to step up a gear with their support: the Vendée Globe. For the past year, Kito de Pavant has been devoted to the fine tuning of this Italian built sistership to Safran, and the Transat Ecover-BtoB will be its first outing in solo configuration.
