About

The latest IMOCA Open 60 is almost a sistership to Michel Desjoyeaux's last Foncia. Designed by VPLP / Verdier and built in CDK, the boat also profited from the expertise of the Team Mer Agitée who obviously took into account the feedback from the Barcelona World Race 2010-2011 to make some accurate modifications. The boat is now adapted to François Gabarts's sailing and she will definitely be one of the front runners in the forthcoming Vendée Globe.

History

MACIF was launched in August this year and François Gabart and his crew have been sailing and testing the boat since then to finalise the technical development in order to be ready for the forthcoming transatlantic races, ie the Transat Jacques Vabre and the Transat B to B.

For his first race in IMOCA, François finished second in the Trophée Azimut, run double-handed with Sebastien Col during the Atlantique Le Télégramme in Lorient.

About the Skipper

A professional skipper since 2008, François Gabart is considered to be one of the most gifted sailors of his generation. A trained engineer, who started out as an Olympic sailor, he spent four years in the French Tornado team from 2001 to 2005 and entered the world of ocean racing in the period between 2005 and 2007. There then followed a rapid climb to the top. Winner of the selection process to find the Brittany Region talent in 2008 and the 2010 Macif Skipper, he achieved a great set of results in the Figaro circuit. The year 2010 was when he was finally crowned, as he became French Offshore Racing Champion, after finishing second in the Solitaire du Figaro and after a brilliant win in the Cap Istanbul.
