About

In spite of having the same weight, the new Akena Vérandas offers 30 to 50% more power than the previous boat. We can add to the list of achievements the seventh place in the 2009 Transat Jacques Vabre, when Vincent Riou was alongside Arnaud. More recently, Arnaud Boissières won second place in the 2010 SNSM record and 7th in the last Route du Rhum-La Banque Postale.

History

Launched in May 2006, this Farr-designed boat is in fact Vincent Riou’s former PRB, aboard which he took part in the 2006 Route du Rhum 2006 and in 2007 won the Calais Round Britain Race, the Rolex Fastnet Race and the Petit Navire Grand Prix. It was also on board her that Vincent Riou took part in the first edition of the Barcelona Word Race and finished third equal in the last Vendée Globe after dismasting following his rescue of Jean Le Cam. This fine boat has now been in the hands of Arnaud Boissières since June 2009.

About the Skipper

Determined and professional, Arnaud Boissières, nicknamed Cali, has been a professional sailor for 15 years now. It was back in 1995 that he carried out his first delivery trips. The sailor from Arcachon did this for three years, while also sailing with Pascal Bidégorry in the Figaro circuit and took care of the support work for Yves Parlier’s Team Aquitaine. He would also work as assistant preparing Catherine Chabaud’s boat. From 1996 to 1998 he skippered boats in the French West Indies, while remaining in contact with Yves Parlier, for whom he did three delivery trips bringing home his 60-foot monohull. All of these experiences encouraged him even more to enter the world of ocean racing.
