About

Designed by the Owen-Clarke Design team and launched in 2000 in New Zealand, Fòrum Marítim Català is Ellen MacArthur’s former Kingfisher. It was on board this boat that the British heroine took second place in the 2000-2001 Vendée Globe before winning the EDS Challenge in 2001 and the 2002 Route du Rhum. The boat was then decked out in the colours of Educacion Sin Fronteras for the first edition of the Barcelona World Race. In the hands of the Spanish sailor Albert Bargués and the young French woman, Servane Escoffier, the boat finished in fifth place.


History

For the second edition of the non-stop double-handed race, the boat was completely refitted and now includes the latest innovations from the IMOCA class.

About the Skipper

Experienced at preparing boats, Ludovic Aglaor has worked with some of the top names in ocean racing like Alain Gautier, Philippe Poupon and Dominic Vittet. In 2004, he joined the crew of Orange II aboard which he took the helm and then became watch leader. He was involved in Bruno Peyron’s campaigns aboard the maxi catamaran: the Mediterranean Record in 2004, the Jules Verne Trophy in 2005 and the North Atlantic record in 2006.

About the Skipper

Gerard Marín started out sailing small boats. From 2002 to 2006, he took part in Europe class regattas obtaining some great results becoming Spanish champion twice in 2002 and 2006, and was runner up in the 2002 world championship. He entered the Mini class in 2006 with the GAES Solidaria team, which marked a tuning point in his career, as he took the decision to become a full-time ocean racer.
