The toughest day yet
Life for the crews onboard the six IMOCA boats competing in The Ocean Race Atlantic has gone from hard to harder over the past day.
•••A lifelong sports fan, Julien is one of those for whom becoming a professional sportsman was more of a goal than a dream. Trained by the best in routing and weather, he is now on board with one of the most promising women of his generation.
Sailing is a game of strategist that Julien is particularly affected by.
In parallel to sailing, he develops my skills as a router and weather strategist. Passionate about this aspect of the game, he has been building his experience since 2014 with the reference in the field: Jean-Yves Bernot, the "Sorcerer", as we like to call him. He has assisted him on the biggest ocean races over the last few years: Route du Rhum / Transat Jacques Vabre / The Transat... He even integrated François Gabart's routing cell on the Trimaran Macif towards a new solo round the world record time.
In July 2019, he teamed up with Gwénolé Gahinet to route Alan Roura and his IMOCA La Fabrique towards a new record time in the Single-handed North Atlantic Crossing, in 7 days 16 hours 55 minutes.
It was during the Tour de Bretagne en Figaro in 2019 that he met Justine Mettraux. He became the performance manager of his IMOCA boat when she took over the former Charal, and she took Julien on board for the 2023 IMOCA Globe Series season, with the Transat Jacques Vabre as her goal.
After spending the winter of 2024–2025 with the Gitana team, aiming to break the Jules Verne Trophy record, Jullien will join Team Malizia as a crew member for The Ocean Race Europe.
2023: Stand-by with Spindrift to beat the Jules Verne Trophy record
