A Breton born in Ploemeur in the Morbihan region of Brittany, Davy Beaudart is no stranger to the world of ocean racing, as Louis Burton reminds us, having chosen his lifelong friend for this double-handed season.
A passionate sailor since the age of 15, Davy Beaudart lives and breathes sailing and ocean racing. Like Louis Burton, he is a self-taught sailor. Without having gone through the classic stages of racing, Davy has built up a more than enviable list of achievements. He was also one of the forerunners of round-nosed boats, also known as 'Scows'. A lover of a job well done, Davy Beaudart is a meticulous sailor: "What I like most at sea and when I'm racing is to disconnect from everything that connects me to the land. I've only got one objective: to go fast and get the best possible place," he explains.
"Louis and I call each other regularly to ask each other a couple of questions. In November 2019, he said to me, "Listen, would you be tempted to come and do the double-handed season and the TJV on Bureau Vallée 2?" I said yes straight away, because sailing is something I really love. He told me one very important thing: "The programme is to perform well this season", to which I replied "with pleasure", as I love performance and it's a leitmotif on the water. It all started from there..."
After the 2020-21 Vendée Globe, Louis Burton bought the round-nosed IMOCA L'Occitane en Provence to set his sights on the 2024 round-the-world race, now christened Bureau Vallée. And guess who he called to assist him on this Transat Jacques Vabre 2021: his friend Davy Beaudart. Together, in 2021, they competed in The Ocean Race Europe (5th) and the Défi Azimut-Lorient Agglomération (4th), before setting off on the Transat Jacques Vabre. Unfortunately, the duo was dismasted just a few hours after the start.
In 2023, the duo meet again to race the transat between Le Havre and La Martinique.
