ALL ACCESS #14 with Damien Seguin
Let’s dive into the thrilling preparations for the Vendée Globe. For #IMOCA skippers, 2024 is a crucial year, marking the pinnacle of their efforts. Sailing solo around the world is their ultimate ambition, and simply reaching the starting line is already a victory.
Damien, born without a left hand, explains how he’s turned his disability into a strength on his boat. He shares with us the ingenious solutions he’s implemented to make his IMOCA a perfectly adapted – even optimized – environment for solo sailing in the Vendée Globe.
This year, Damien is going even further by wearing sensors on his body throughout the race. He’ll collect real-time data on his body temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, stress levels, rest periods, and hydration. This information will allow him to monitor his energy on board, assess his recovery, and ensure he doesn’t exceed his limits. It’s a valuable contribution to better understanding human performance management at sea.
Discover the details of his training and the strategies he’s implementing to stay at his best in this hostile environment.
ALL ACCESS is the web series produced by IMOCA in partnership with @harken. Its goal: to immerse you in the world of the skippers and the behind-the-scenes efforts of their teams throughout the year, in the heart of their intense preparation for the major challenge awaiting them at the end of the year.
