Tanguy, with heart

Thanks to the Initiatives company and its support of the ‘Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque’ (Heart Surgery Sponsorship) association, the clever and well put together ‘Initiatives-coeur’ project managed to create an impressive chain of solidarity around Tanguy’s infectious enthusiasm. Rarely has a charity project carried such weight in the world of ocean racing. Thanks to the social networks, thanks to the skipper’s crazy photos and videos, and thanks to the celebrities and media rallying together, nearly 200,000 people clicked ‘Like’ on Facebook, which equates to the same number of Euros raised. The results are concrete ones since they translated as real children whose lives have been saved and their lovely smiles aboard Tanguy’s boat on his arrival in Les Sables d’Olonne yesterday.

Though this ‘rookie’ boasts serious technical talent, he didn’t set out on the latest generation steed, but rather the monohull formerly sailed by Catherine Chabaud and then Marc Thiercelin. And the sailor has certainly had his fair share of hardships, cold sweats and DIY missions along the way. After much effort, “Tanguyver” always managed to make the necessary repairs though and the boat finished the race for the first time in its history. Very emotional on setting foot on dry land, Tanguy often admitted during his round the world that he felt responsible for these children’s futures. The young man has made headway in a relaxed manner with both heart and soul. Another fine lesson in sport and life given to us by the Vendée Globe. Bravo Tanguy, you’ve done it. We’re proud of you.
