The 2019 edition will mark the ninth anniversary of the Défi Azimut, the annual meeting for skippers from the IMOCA class, with a revamped programme offering even more races off Sailing Valley, Brittany. Launched in 2011 by AZIMUT, a Lorient-based company specialising in information systems and on-line communication, the 'Défi' has become the unmissable preamble to the major offshore races, such as the Route du Rhum, the Transat Jacques Vabre and the Vendée Globe.

Organised in September – after the summer preparations and prior to the sports events in October and November – the Défi Azimut gives the sailors a chance to come together and weigh up their performances one last time without pressure.

Split into several challenges during the five-day event, from 18 to 22 September, it’s notable offerings this year include an offshore race of over 500 miles, as well as speed runs and the traditional sprint around the Ile de Groix.
