Profile

With over 20 years experience in ocean racing and regattas, Corentin Douguet is the new co-skipper of Guirec Soudée on Freelance.com for the 2023 season.

Corentin Douguet fell into sailing as a child on his family's Muscadet boat. It was only later on that he started competing, during his studies as a merchant marine. At the time, he was 20 years old. First Class 8, Jod 35, Laser, liveaboard: Corentin varies the supports and races with a group of friends. Once he had obtained his merchant navy officer's diploma, he made a radical choice and decided to make his passion his profession.

In 1998, he became a trainer on the Figaro circuit, and started convoying and racing as soon as possible. After a complicated Mini Transat, Corentin continued his training. He embarked on the Tour Voile adventure in a Farr30 and lined up at the start of the Transat AG2R with his friend Thierry Chabagny, with whom he finished in 4th place in the Transat Saint-Nazaire Dakar in 2003. In 2005, he relaunched a Mini project, which he won this time. "I told myself I had to go back. I bought my first boat at the beginning of 2004, a Manuard design with which I won many races, including the Mini in 2005. This victory marked the beginning of my career", he confides.

Corentin then moved on to a Figaro project, from 2006 to 2010, during which time he scored two podium finishes in the overall classification in the Solitaire du Figaro, and a stage victory in 2007. Before returning to the Tour Voile for three years as skipper of a semi-professional project.

After a complicated Covid-19 period during which he continued to sail while doing weather routing for other skippers, Corentin embarked with Tanguy Le Turquais (Quéguiner - Innoveo) on the two-handed Concarneau Saint-Barthélemy Transat in 2021. Together, the two men finished 2nd.

He signed with his sponsor Quéguiner to build a 40-foot Lombard design, Crosscall's sistership. Three months after the boat was launched, Corentin made a sensational entry into the circuit by winning the 1000 Milles des Sables solo. At the end of the same year, he finished 3rd in the Route du Rhum.

In 2023, he joined the IMOCA Class with Guirec Soudée on Freelance.com
