German Robert Stanjek, born in 1981, is an experienced Olympian and ocean racer who has won numerous national and international titles and placed sixth at the 2012 Olympic Games (Star).
Together with his teammate Frithjof Kleen, he won the European Star Class Doubles Championship in 2008. In 2011, the pair finished second in the Star World Championship, before being selected to represent their country at the London 2012 Olympic Games, where they finished in sixth place. In 2014, Stanjek and Kleen were crowned Star world champions on Lake Garda, Italy.
With the Star class withdrawn from the Olympics, Stanjek turned to ocean racing and, after training with Dutch syndicate Team Brunel for The Ocean Race 2014-15, set his sights on a round-the-world campaign of his own. Soon after, German sailing legend Jochen Schümann appointed him as helmsman of the 30-metre maxi yacht "Esimit Europa 2". In 2015, Stanjek won the Fastnet Race for the second time at the helm of the Mini-Maxi "Momo".
In 2021, Stanjek led Offshore Team Germany (the forerunner of GUYOT environnement - Team Europe) to victory in the inaugural edition of The Ocean Race Europe.
