Samantha Davies – the only female skipper competing in this 7th edition - emerged in the public eye during the 2008-2009 Vendée Globe. Yet sailing specialists were already familiar with her name, especially in Brittany, where she is based. Born in Great-Britain, she took advantage of her Saint-John College training in Cambridge as an engineer and made sure there was not a sailing technique or technical element she could not deal with. Her great experience of the sea helped her become an offshore sailing figure to be reckoned with but what made her become the public’s darling is a little something extra she has: her joie de vivre, her happiness when she’s at sea and her natural charms. These characteristics, along with her composure and her sense of humour and of fun selfdeprecation, have contributed to the popularity of the petite yachtswoman on the docks.

But “mischievous Sam” will never prevent “Determined Sam” from reaching her main goal: get the best results she can. She made that very clear when she finished fourth in the 2008-2009 Vendee Globe. Voted “2009 Yachtsman of the year”, the British girl owes her reputation to her rich experience on various boats, sailing on every single sea, and she now has many races and records under her belt. During the 2010 Transat AG2R, she caught the attention of Savéol, who decided to sponsor the 2012-2013 Vendee Globe articipation of this outstanding sportswoman, along with a group of other partners. Surrounded with the same team since 2006, Sam will therefore have another opportunity to “rush to the finish line and leave as many yachts as possible behind!”
