"Le roi Jean" (King Jean) is so named because of his utter domination when he competed on the Figaro circuit. That was 20 years ago, just after the young Le Cam had worn out his foul weather gear in Concarneau Bay on "Mervent".
This family training aboard this famous Armagnac would quickly bear fruit: among other trophies, Jean went on to win three Solitaire du Figaros! Further victories and podium finishes ensued on everything that floats, with one or more hulls, from world champion titles (in Formula 40 or FICO), to records and transatlantic races... This great Breton talent is as relevant on land preparing (very) fast boats, as he is at sea getting them to the right place with speed and strength.
Looking as if butter wouldn’t melt, Jean has never left the spotlight. In 2015, he was crowned IMOCA World Champion, he finished 6th in the Vendée Globe 2016 and finished on the podium again (3rd) in the Bermudes 1000 Race 2018.
In 2019, Jean Le Cam sailed around Europe to meet his partners before racing the Transat Jacques Vabre with Nicolas Troussel on board his faithful IMOCA 'Hubert', which was put under the colours of CORUM L'Epargne for the occasion.
In 2020, Jean is putting together a Vendée Globe project and is embarking on the adventure for the fifth time. The skipper battled at the head of the fleet throughout the race, demonstrating that experience and knowledge of his boat could make the difference on a round-the-world race. He finished 4th in the race after benefiting from a 16h15 bonus following the rescue of Kevin Escoffier.
