The first skippers crossed the finish line of the Retour à La Base race on Saturday night. These arrivals mark the end of a year 2023 that will have been a busy one at sea, with a record number of events, and some of the most fantastic to follow from land.
This time, Yoann Richomme won. He led the race for several days thanks to a superb tactical option. The solo sailor, for whom this was his first solo race on his 60-foot boat, showed over these 9 days at sea that he will be a formidable opponent next year.
A few hours later, Jérémie Beyou took second place on his Charal, which had no aeroplanes and therefore no reliable weather information. A superb performance for the sailor. Then, barely two hours behind him, Sam Goodchild rounded off the podium. The British sailor, who recently joined the Class, has had a faultless year, taking bronze in five races this season. He wins the title of IMOCA 2023 Champion, a well-deserved reward.
Well done to all the skippers and teams for these fine performances.
