IMOCA RACE REPORT #7 I Retour à La Base - Day 5
It's already been five days since our sailors left Martinique bound for Lorient and submarine mode has been activated aboard the IMOCA boats! As Davy Beaudart says, "the alarms must be ringing off the hook"...
The fleet is sailing ahead of a low-pressure system, enabling them to maintain impressive speeds. At the start, the specialists were saying that the weather forecast was going to be conducive to a new record, and so it is!
Today, at 15h30 (Paris time), Thomas Ruyant broke the record for the longest distance covered in 24 hours solo, covering 539.84 miles at an average speed of 22.5 knots ?
Will anyone else be able to beat him? ?
